Shay E. Meagle is a senior attorney at Business Law Southwest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, providing vigorous counsel to her clients in matters of bankruptcy, including Chapter 7, 11 (including Subchapter V), and 13 bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings, and bankruptcy appeals. Her bankruptcy practice primarily involves representation of creditors, but she occasionally represents business debtors. She was certified as a Creditors' Rights Specialist by the American Board of Certification during the period 2008-2025. Shay also enjoys and is experienced in bankruptcy appellate work. Shay does not represent consumers in bankruptcy.

She handles loan recoveries, debt restructuring, complex business and commercial transactions, inter-corporate disputes, and complex commercial litigation. Her approach is led with precision and knowledge, ensuring that her clients are understood and their goals are prioritized.

Shay was born and raised in Ohio, where she also attended undergrad and law school, and practiced law for a few years. After graduating from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree in 1993, Shay pursued her law degree at Capital University of Law. She gained her Juris Doctor in 1996 and was licensed to practice in Ohio the same year. She became licensed in and moved to New Mexico in 1998. She is further admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Ohio, Southern District of Ohio, District of New Mexico, and the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Shay continues to hold license in Ohio and the Navajo Nation but is currently on inactive status.

As a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Shay stays committed to her profession and strives to keep up with the latest developments in her field. She has also been recognized as a Fellow by the American Bar Foundation. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Business Section of the New Mexico State Bar and previously served on the Board of Directors for the State Bar’s Bankruptcy Section (serving both as Chair and Secretary). Shay was also a member of the New Mexico Supreme Court's Ad Hoc Committee concerning the termination of stays and special rules in effect during the Coronavirus pandemic and advising the Court on State procedural rules to assist in the processing of case backlogs, judgment enforcement matters, and the anticipated volume of foreclosure and other cases.
