Alejandro Acosta, III

Based in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Alejandro Acosta III is a trial lawyer with more than 14 years of experience representing plaintiffs in high-stakes personal injury and wrongful death litigation. As a founding partner of Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C., he has secured a range of favorable outcomes for clients, including multiple recoveries and settlements in excess of seven figures. He has taken over a dozen jury trials to verdict in Texas and New Mexico, tried numerous matters in arbitration, and argued appeals before the Eighth Court of Appeals in El Paso and the New Mexico Court of Appeals in Santa Fe. 

Rated with a perfect “10.0” score on Avvo, Mr. Acosta is board-certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has been recognized repeatedly by peers and professional organizations. He has been named to the Top 40 Under 40 and Top 100 Trial Lawyers lists, and included in Lawyers of Distinction following a national selection process in 2020. He is also a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is acknowledged by the National Trial Lawyers Association for his work on behalf of plaintiffs.

Mr. Acosta’s legal career began as a research attorney for the Court of Appeals under Chief Justice Ann McClure, where he spent two years honing appellate research and writing. He later practiced as an associate at a personal injury firm before cofounding his own practice in 2016 to better serve injured clients across Texas and New Mexico. His trial record includes notable success in premises liability and wrongful death trucking cases, with coverage and peer recognition such as an appearance in Verdict Search and a publication in the State Bar Litigation Section Report: “The Advocate” on Arbitration.

Active in the trial bar, Mr. Acosta served as president of the El Paso Trial Lawyers Association in 2018 and currently sits on the Advocates Board of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, including its Minority Caucus, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and the Federal Bar Association. He is also a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

A lifelong El Paso resident, Mr. Acosta earned his J.D. from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2008, including an Indian Legal Certificate, and is admitted in Texas, New Mexico, and federal districts covering New Mexico and the Western District of Texas.
