James D. Tawney

James D. Tawney is a seasoned personal injury attorney and co-founder of Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C., in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He began his career representing accident victims and their families throughout New Mexico and Texas, quickly developing a reputation for delivering justice in cases involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death. In 2016, he and his colleague Alejandro Acosta established the firm, which now has offices in Las Cruces, Carlsbad and El Paso, serving clients across the region with a focus on results and client care.

Graduating summa cum laude, Mr. Tawney earned his undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University before pursuing his J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law. While in law school, he distinguished himself through his work in the trial advocacy program, earned multiple awards for academic achievement, and served as lead articles editor for the Estate Planning & Community Property Law Journal, where his article was published. He graduated magna cum laude.

Mr. Tawney’s professional accomplishments have been recognized nationally and locally. He is board-certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, including in the specialty area of Truck Accident Law. He is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and was named to the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 list. His work has also been honored by the El Paso Bar Association, El Paso Times, El Paso Magazine, Albuquerque Business First and the Better Business Bureau of El Paso.

Mr. Tawney is licensed to practice in Texas and New Mexico, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
