Serving the residents of New Mexico since 2007, Jamison Barkley is the attorney behind her eponymous law firm – Jamison Barkley Law. She has built a distinguished career over the past 15-plus years as both a trial lawyer of great proficiency and an appellate attorney who does not shy away from any challenge. She litigates a wide variety of civil cases including employment law, police misconduct, wrongful death and other civil rights matters.
Ms. Barkley attended the University of Colorado Denver and acquired her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003. Later in 2007, she earned a doctorate in law from the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder. During her time at the university, she was part of the law review and served as an intern at Colorado Legal Services – Migrant Farm Worker Division. In addition to New Mexico, she is licensed to practice law in Colorado, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico and the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Known for always surpassing her clients' expectations, Ms. Barkley, in collaboration with her co-counsel, achieved an $800,000 verdict on behalf of a woman who was subjected to sexual harassment and prevented from gaining further employment in retaliation for her complaints of gender discrimination against her employer, which were protected by the New Mexico Human Rights Act. Similarly, she secured a verdict of $1.5 million on behalf of a man whose employer maliciously alleged him of committing fraud and breach of duty.
Early in her career, Ms. Barkley worked for the Santa Fe City Attorney’s Office and the New Mexico Legislature, and as a law clerk for the New Mexico Supreme Court. She is currently the chair of the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association – Amicus Committee and a member of the New Mexico Supreme Court Uniform Jury Instructions Committee. She is also the former contributing editor for the American Bar Association Litigation Section’s Litigation News.
In addition, Ms. Barkley holds memberships in the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association and the State Bar of New Mexico – Appellate Practice Section. She also volunteers her time for Youth Shelters & Family Services, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and support for homeless, runaway and in-crisis youth. She has been a board member of this organization since 2017.
Ms. Barkley was listed in the Top 40 Under 40 Attorneys of The National Trial Lawyers and the Top 10 Under 40 of the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
