With extensive experience in representing individuals and businesses throughout the New York City metropolitan area, Anthony J. Harwood has built a reputation as a leader in commercial litigation, professional liability and white collar criminal defense. The founder of his own firm, Mr. Harwood has tried cases in both federal and state courts involving a variety of matters, including real estate disputes, intellectual property infringement and securities fraud.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history from Cornell University in 1983, Mr. Harwood went on to attend Fordham University School of Law. While in law school, he served on the Fordham Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 1987. After graduation, Mr. Harwood served for a year as a clerk for a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York before becoming an associate at a prestigious New York City law firm in 1988. Highly regarded by his fellow professionals, he has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.

Admitted to practice in New York, Mr. Harwood is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 2nd, 5th and Federal Circuits. Active in a variety of legal organizations, he is a member of the Professional Ethics Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York as well as a member of the Committee on Professional Ethics of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Harwood is also an active participant in the Federal Bar Council.

Verdicts and Settlements:

  • Obtained a settlement in the amount of $175,000 for a real estate broker who served as marketing agent for a housing redevelopment program in Brooklyn, 2017
  • As co-counsel with Fein & Jakab, obtained a $4 million settlement for a former pharmaceutical executive who brought claims for wrongful termination under a federal whistleblower statute., 2017
  • As co-counsel with Rakower Law, after a 5-day bench trial in November 2016 before Judge Oetkin in the Southern District of New York, obtained a judgment for failure to pay pension benefits valued at approximately $14 million, based upon a lump sum payment of approximately $3.4 million, a lifetime stream of monthy cash payments, and life insurance benefits of approximately $3.2 million.  The judgment was entered on June 1, 2017., 2017
