    Attorney Profile

Daniel P. O’Toole is a managing partner at the Manhattan-based personal injury law firm Block O’Toole & Murphy, LLP. A highly experienced trial lawyer who has secured more than $375,000,000 in settlements in the last six years alone, Mr. O’Toole focuses his legal practice on robustly and compassionately representing the rights of personal injury victims. He has handled cases of construction accidents, automobile accidents, bad faith claims, industrial accidents, and medical malpractice, among others.

Pairing strong litigation skills with more than 28 years of experience, Mr. O’Toole recently obtained a $110,174,972 verdict for a 23-year-old cyclist who was paralyzed from the waist down after he was struck by a falling railroad tie. This is believed to be the largest individual personal injury verdict ever in New York State. Other notable verdicts include a $32,756,055 award—the largest personal injury verdict in Suffolk County—for a Vietnam veteran who was severely injured when he was struck by a reckless driver, and a $20,181,000 verdict—the second-largest personal injury verdict in the Court of Claims—for a man who was injured in a car crash due to icy road conditions. In 2020, Mr. O’Toole obtained a $15,000,000 settlement in a wrongful death case for the wife and five children of an HVAC technician who tragically died on the job. In 2019, Mr. O’Toole attained $11,500,000 and $11,000,000 settlements for clients, the second- and third-largest reported settlements that year.

Mr. O’Toole graduated from Fordham University Law School in 1992, and is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. He is active in the New York State Trial Lawyers Association (NYSTLA), where he has been a co-chair of the association’s Labor Law Committee for the last decade. He was chosen as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in the country since 2009 by the American Trial Lawyers Association. His peers also think highly of him, as they have consistently voted him one of the nation’s Best Lawyers® in plaintiff-side personal injury since 2014.

Mr. O’Toole demonstrates a deep commitment to higher education, providing scholarships to students throughout New Jersey, as well as endowing scholarships at Fordham School of Law, Georgetown University, the University of Scranton, and Boston College. Mr. O’Toole is also committed to charitable organizations within his community; he is an active supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Connecticut Center for Child Development, and the Institute of Education Achievement. He has also run the Boston Marathon for the past four years in support of various organizations that aid the disadvantaged, such as HomeStart.
