Lawrence N. Rothbart is the founder of his own firm located in New York City. Providing representation to clients throughout the area, he focuses his practice on divorce and related family law issues, including child custody and support, property division and alimony/maintenance. In addition to acting as a mediator in this field and assisting many clients who choose to participate in mediation and collaborative divorce proceedings as a means to resolving such matters, Mr. Rothbart also represents clients in litigation.
Before attending law school, Mr. Rothbart graduated magna cum laude with his Bachelor of Arts in 1978 from Brandeis University. He then went on to attend New York University School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1981.
Admitted to practice in New York, Mr. Rothbart is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States. After graduating from law school, he was a law clerk for justices on the Appellate Division of the Second Judicial Department of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He then went on to spend two years as an assistant attorney general with the New York State Attorney General's Office. Mr. Rothbart then served as a law secretary for a justice on the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term, a position he held from 1987 to 2003 before leaving for private practice.
