Focusing his practice exclusively on environmental law and related litigation and transactions, Lawrence P. Schnapf is the founder of his own law firm. He is located in Manhattan, and he represents clients throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area, including parts of New Jersey. Mr. Schnapf has been admitted to practice before all of the state courts of both jurisdictions since the mid-1980s.

Mr. Schnapf attended Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, as an undergraduate. While he was there, he majored in English and geology and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. He subsequently pursued his legal education at New York Law School on an Environmental Law Institute scholarship, and he served on the New York Law School Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 1984. Mr. Schnapf continues to teach environmental law as an adjunct professor at his law school alma mater.

Environmental law can have a profound impact on a variety of legal areas, and a large portion of Mr. Schnapf’s practice is devoted to examining its effect on complex business issues. The types of matters that he has handled in this regard have included mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, financings, the development of commercial and residential real estate properties, corporate restructurings, loan workouts and distressed debt. In addition, Mr. Schnapf provides advice and counsel to his clients regarding compliance with a myriad of federal, state and local regulations, and he has represented them in court when disputes arise. He is active in several organizations related to his practice area, including the Environmental and Energy Law Section of the New York State Bar Association, and he has written extensively on environmental law topics.
