Attorney Profile

A former AMLAW 100 litigation partner, Richard B. Friedman is the founder of Manhattan-based Richard Friedman PLLC.

Richard and his six Of-Counsel lawyers handle the following kinds of matters, many of which are referred to Richard by large and mid-size law firms as well as current and former clients:

  • Counseling, drafting, and negotiating on behalf of executives in the financial services, technology, media, and fashion sectors as well as other industries in connection with severance, employment, and related agreements;
  • Negotiating and, where necessary, litigating business divorces among shareholders of closely held corporations, partners, and members of limited liability companies;
  • Employment litigation matters where the firm often represents an individual or team aligned with the referring law firm’s corporate client involving, among other things, non-compete, trade secret, and fiduciary duty issues;
  • Commercial litigation cases, particularly in the New York County Commercial Division on whose Advisory Committee Richard serves as one of fifteen or so judicially appointed trial lawyers with the eight judges of that court;
  • Internal investigations referred to the firm by a corporation’s outside counsel so that it can reduce the likelihood of a motion to disqualify that firm as litigation counsel and improve the prospects of defeating any such motion; and
  • FINRA arbitrations involving restricted stock units and other compensation-related issues on behalf of managing directors and other finance personnel against their former employers.

Richard is on the Board of Directors of the New York County Lawyers Association and the Executive Committee of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association.  Richard is also a delegate to the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association.
