He obtained his Juris Doctor, cum laude, in 1997, and the following year, the New York State Bar Association admitted him to practice, as did the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. He is also admitted to practice in Vermont, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.
