Patrick J. Fitzgerald

Patrick J. Fitzgerald is a managing partner at the Albany, New York, law firm of Girvin & Ferlazzo, PC. Well-known for his trial experience and unrelenting approach, he has been offering prompt defense counsel to protect the rights of business owners and employers in commercial disputes, construction claims, employment disputes, breach of contracts, corporate disagreements and more. Additionally, he represents plaintiffs in personal injury matters involving auto accidents, medical malpractice and product liability claims.

Mr. Fitzgerald received a doctorate in law from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1992 after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Fairfield University in 1987. He was a recipient of Fairfield University’s presidential scholarship. He is authorized to practice in Connecticut (1992), New York (2001), the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Steadfast and trial-ready, Mr. Fitzgerald regularly tries public and private sector employment law and labor cases to verdict. He has experience with the whole spectrum of employment law matters, including those related to the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and other employment laws. He helps employers create a positive work environment by assisting them with HR policies, employee handbooks, contracts and other documents.

Active in his community, Mr. Fitzgerald is among the board of directors of Stride, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive sport and recreation lessons to children and disabled people. He also taught law students as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
