Michael S. Bender

The founder of his law firm, Michael S. Bender focuses his practice solely on personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death litigation, on behalf of accident victims. Based in Astoria, Queens, and in Manhattan, he represents clients throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area, including its surrounding suburbs. Mr. Bender attended Boston University as an undergraduate, where he majored in political science with a minor in economics and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, graduating Cum Laude in 1976. He then went on to pursue his legal education at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta and obtained his Juris Doctor in 1979.

Mr. Bender’s personal injury clients are people who have been harmed in all types of accidents. His cases have encompassed construction site accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, defective products and motor vehicle accidents, and many others. During his career he has been able to recover millions of dollars in compensation for his clients through negotiated settlements as well as verdicts at trial. Some of his recent successes have included a $4.625 million settlement for an individual who was injured in a car accident; $4.575 million for a construction worker injured on the job; $1.25 million for the family of a father and husband who died as a result of medical malpractice; and $1.350 million for a worker who had knee and shoulder surgery after falling down in the lobby of the building where he worked. He has had many other trial verdicts and settlements of hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in a variety of medical malpractice and accident cases.

Prior to forming his own firm, Mr. Bender spent many years  as an attorney at a highly regarded New York City, Manhattan based plaintiff’s personal injury and medical malpractice law firm, and he remains "of counsel" to the firm. This experience and ongoing relationship allow him to take on even the most challenging and complex cases for his clients. Mr. Bender is admitted to practice in all the state courts of New York and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. He has written and argued many appeals during the course of his career before the appellate courts of the state of New York. 

Mr. Bender started his own law firm so that he could personally handle all aspects of the cases he accepts, without relying upon the young and inexperienced associates who typically do much of the legal work at the larger firms.
