As Managing Partner at the Law Office of Dennis R. Vetrano, Jr., LLC, Kristen D. Farris focuses her practice exclusively on Matrimonial and Family Law matters. Located in Beacon, New York, she represents clients in Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Westchester, Ulster and Sullivan counties, as well as other parts of the Hudson Valley and New York State. Ms. Farris is a 2009 graduate of what was then known as the Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Prior to law school, she attended Binghamton University, where she majored in psychology and pre-med, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in 2006. Ms. Farris has been admitted to practice before all New York state courts since 2010. She had a NY Practice Order issued from the Appellate Division from late 2008-2010.Â
Many of Ms. Farris’s clients are either facing the end of their marriages or are already in the beginning stages of divorce proceedings. To that end, she advises them on such issues as the division of complex marital assets and debts, child custody and visitation, and spousal and child support. Ms. Farris is often able to help them come to an accord on these matters through the negotiation of a comprehensive settlement agreement, but when litigation is necessary, she provides forceful courtroom advocacy on their behalf. In addition to her matrimonial practice, Ms. Farris has represented victims of domestic violence who are petitioning the court for protective orders, and she has handled parental relocation matters as well as modifications to and the enforcement of existing parenting and support court orders.
Ms. Farris began her career as a legal extern Public Defender defending individuals charged of misdemeanor crimes in Washtenaw County, Michigan and then as a legal extern prosecutor with the Orange County Attorney's Office, where she handled child abuse and juvenile delinquency cases. Her first job in private practice was as a matrimonial and criminal defense associate at a law firm in Orange County, NY. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Dutchess County Bar Association, along with several other professional groups.Â
