Peter J. Schaffer

The founder of his eponymous law firm, Peter J. Schaffer focuses his practice primarily on criminal defense matters. Located in the Bronx, he represents clients throughout the greater New York City metropolitan area as well as in parts of Connecticut. Admitted to practice in New York since 1987, Mr. Schaffer is also admitted to practice in Connecticut as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit.

Mr. Schaffer’s client base is largely made up of people who have been accused by the federal or state government with having committed felonies or misdemeanors. The types of cases that he has worked on have included drug possession and trafficking, driving while intoxicated by alcohol, rape and other sex crimes, burglary, homicide, weapons violations, RICO violations, and white collar crimes such as money laundering and fraud. Mr. Schaffer has obtained successful results for his clients, including dismissals, bench and jury acquittals, and the negotiation of favorable plea agreements with the prosecution.

Apart from his criminal defense caseload, Mr. Schaffer represents clients whose civil rights have been violated as a result of false arrests or police brutality. His practice also includes personal injury and wrongful death litigation, in which he assists people who have been harmed as the result of negligence of other parties in cases involving medical malpractice, motor vehicle accidents, premises liability and defective products. A graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Mr. Schaffer is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Bronx Bar Association, and other professional groups.
