Details

Alexander J. Abdo is a workers’ compensation attorney at Abdo & O’Brien, P.C., in Camillus, New York, representing injured workers in Syracuse and throughout New York State. Since 2005, he has handled thousands of workers’ compensation cases, appearing at hearings and trials in Syracuse, Utica, Watertown, Binghamton, Rochester, Norwich, and Elmira. Because the Workers’ Compensation Board has held hearings virtually since 2020, his clients can take part in their hearings remotely, wherever in the state they live.

For nearly eight years, Alex was a partner with a prominent Syracuse law firm, where he represented insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and municipalities in workers’ compensation matters. That work gave him a firsthand understanding of how insurers evaluate, investigate, and defend claims. Having always enjoyed working with and helping people, he left in March 2013 to found Abdo Law, P.C., and put that understanding to work for injured workers. In January 2019, Alex merged his firm with the practice of prominent attorney Michael J. O’Brien to form Abdo & O’Brien, P.C. Attorney O’Brien has since retired.

Before returning home to Syracuse in 2005 to be closer to family, Alex built his litigation experience in Florida, participating in more than 100 jury and non-jury trials with the Hillsborough County (Tampa) Public Defender’s Office. He also clerked for Judge William Van Nortwick, Jr. of Florida’s First District Court of Appeal and served as a Legislation Analyst for the Committee on Local Government & Veterans’ Affairs of the Florida House of Representatives. That background shapes how he handles every case, whether it goes to trial or is resolved through negotiation: he knows that small details can make a large difference in a case’s leverage, and he prepares accordingly.

Alex earned his B.S., cum laude, in Applied Psychology with a minor in Business from Ithaca College, and his J.D., cum laude, from the Florida State University College of Law.

He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Onondaga County Bar Association, and the Injured Workers’ Bar Association. Alex is also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Camillus and the Optimist Club of Camillus.
