Details
Peter E. Brill is a Criminal Defense Attorney for clients with serious, life-altering matters in Manhattan and on Long Island. His firm provides aggressive yet compassionate (and discreet) representation to our clients at perhaps the most difficult time in their lives at a level unparalleled in the field.
Peter has extensive criminal trial experience in state and federal court, arbitration and administrative proceedings, representing clients in many high-profile matters, and in many others that he has managed to keep out of the public eye. He has won cases for his clients in practically every county in the New York metropolitan area.
A former Assistant District Attorney, he now focuses on criminal defense of both civilians and law enforcement. He also routinely defends the professional licenses of health care professionals, government employees and law enforcement officers in union arbitrations and disciplinary proceedings before arbitrators, OPD, OPMC, OATH and the NYPD Trial Room, among other forums.
As of 2025, he is now the only attorney in all of New York State to be certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Criminal Law. He graduated cum laude from Brown University and received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
We engage in aggressive advocacy, negotiation, and mediation with outcomes favorable to our clients. We have tried over 100 cases to verdict with impressive results. Extensive and in-depth law enforcement and government contacts.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Brown University in 1994, Mr. Brill went on to attend Georgetown University Law Center and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1997. After graduation, he spent three years as an assistant district attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney's Office before entering private practice. Admitted to practice in New York, Mr. Brill is a member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also active in the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court and the New York County Lawyers Association American Inn of Court. Since 2000, Mr. Brill has assisted the American Civil Liberties Union as a cooperating attorney on a pro bono basis, and he has served as an adjunct professor at the New York Institute of Technology.
His successes in the courtroom, as well as his high degree of ethics, have led Mr. Brill to receive high praise from his fellow professionals. He has been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 each year since 2014, and he has received a perfect 10.0 "Superb" peer-review rating through Avvo.
