Details

Kim M. Smith is the owner of Kim Smith Law Group, PLLC. Located at 201 Old Country Rd., Ste. 110, in Melville, New York, she focuses her practice on elder law as well as estate planning and administration, representing clients throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties. Ms. Smith has been admitted to practice before all New York state courts since 2003.

Ms. Smith regularly prepares and reviews wills, a variety of revocable and irrevocable trusts, financial and health care powers of attorney and advance medical directives. She tailors her estate planning to meet the needs and goals of her clients, helping them to preserve and protect their assets for future generations. She also has experience in the preparation of special needs trusts for clients who have loved ones with physical or mental disabilities and who don't want to jeopardize their eligibility for governmental assistance. In her estate and trust administration practice, Ms. Smith works with beneficiaries and fiduciaries, helping to ensure that all assets are accounted for and liabilities are paid before funds are disbursed. Her elder law experience has encompassed guardianships, conservatorships, and Medicaid and long-term care planning.

Ms. Smith is frequently asked to deliver presentations on topics related to her practice areas, both to fellow attorneys and to financial professionals. She has also led seminars for Adult and Continuing Education programs for adults as well as to other members of her community. After graduating from Stony Brook University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences, Ms. Smith spent several years as a radiation therapist at local hospitals, and she continued to do so while attending the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at night. She was awarded her Juris Doctor cum laude in 2003.
