Andrew A. Smith

A partner at Mintz & Gold, attorney Andrew A. Smith is a renowned federal and appellate litigator focusing on complex commercial and business litigation in the New York metro area. He has vast experience in trademark and copyright protection, securities litigation, partnership dissolution, executive compensation and real estate conflicts. His clientele includes some of New York's top real estate developers, international and national investment banks and private equity firms, as well as startups and nonprofit organizations.

Mr. Smith has an impressive two years of experience working as the attorney adviser to the Office of Legal Affairs for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, where he focused on research and writing for the mediation department. This background in mediation and arbitration benefits his clients by providing creative solutions to cases that often lead to favorable settlements outside of court. He was bestowed with the Special Achievement Award from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, for his work in the mediation department and the staff attorney’s office.

Prior to partnering with Mintz & Gold, Mr. Smith had worked at a small commercial litigation law firm for 11 years. He handled a variety of matters ranging from partnership divorces and financial disputes to bankruptcy and intellectual property matters.

Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Arts in 2000 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, and eight years later, graduated from the St. John’s University School of Law, New York, with a Juris Doctor degree. At St. John’s, he was the associate managing editor of the Journal of Commercial and Federal Litigation and earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in New York Practice, Federal Pre-Trial Advocacy and Education Law. He was a standout college athlete as well, having been a four-year letter winner on the university's varsity lacrosse team.
