Representative Clients
- Ms. Guentert is representing former patients of a U.S. Army doctor who in January 2025 was sentenced to just over 13 years in prison for sexually abusing patients at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Wash. Attorneys for Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight have filed Federal Tort Claims Act administrative complaints on behalf of the survivors. The FTCA administrative complaints allege that the Army was negligent in its hiring, supervision, and retention of the doctor. Under the Federal Torts Claims Act, the first step for individuals pursuing a civil lawsuit against an agency of the federal government, such as the Army, is to file an administrative complaint against the agency at fault. The agency is then afforded six months to investigate the claim. After that, the individual may file a lawsuit against the agency in federal court., 2025
- Ms. Guentert represents plaintiff Elsie Dominguez in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey against the United States. The Complaint, filed in November 2023, alleges that Ms. Dominguez, a civilian mariner working as the 1st Assistant Engineer aboard the USNS Carson City, a naval vessel operated by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command (MSC), was raped by the Captain of the vessel as she slept in her bed and that the United States failed to adequately protect her from sexual assault. In February 2024, the United States moved to stay the case, arguing that any injuries that Ms. Dominguez sustained from being raped in her own bed were a consequence of her employment and can only be redressed through a workers’ compensation claim. In March 2024, Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight filed an opposition to the motion to stay. The matter is ongoing., 2025
