Gary M. Kaufman is the founder and principal attorney of The Law Office of Gary Kaufman, PLLC, located in New York, New York. Licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey since 2007, Mr. Kaufman represents clients throughout both states who need solid, effective defense strategies against all types of felonies and misdemeanors as well as students who face suspension from school.
Driven by a mission to help those accused of crimes, particularly those wrongly accused, Mr. Kaufman works hard to protect the rights and liberties of his clients. Whether at trial or during negotiations, Mr. Kaufman fights aggressively for his clients in order to achieve the most favorable outcome possible depending on their circumstances.
A 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, Mr. Kaufman attended Yeshiva University Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 2006. He then worked for a year with the Office of the Public Defender for the 9th Judicial District in Orlando, Florida, before returning to the New York area.
Upon his return, Mr. Kaufman served as a public defense attorney for Staten Island Legal Services as well as for the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem. These experiences helped Mr. Kaufman hone his criminal defense skills and introduced him to working with students facing suspension. Now in private practice, Mr. Kaufman continues to use the invaluable experience he gained to provide the highest level of service possible to his clients.
Fully committed to his practice, Mr. Kaufman is active in several professional legal organizations, including the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the New York State Defenders Association, among others. He is the past secretary and chair for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York Small Law Firms Special Committee and was also a member of the Criminal Courts Committee. Mr. Kaufman is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Mr. Kaufman is a member of the Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panels for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York
In addition to his work in the courtroom, Mr. Kaufman teaches Fundamental Lawyering Skills as an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law.
