Prior to launching Boyarski Fritz LLP, Jason served as the Senior Vice President & GM for Warner/Chappell Music from 2008 to 2011. There, he oversaw the U.S. company’s East Coast operations and he was instrumental in facilitating and executing a broad array of the company’s core business, including the strategy and procurement of new artist and writer signings with recording artists, producers and writers, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and film and television projects. Jason played a key role in in the multi-million dollar signings or re-signings including Paramore, Katy Perry, Wale, Green Day, Claude Kelly, The Stereotypes, Uncle Kracker, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Van Halen, Gucci Mane, Bryan Michael Cox, Kevin Rudolf, Trey Songz, Priscilla Renea and Michael Bublé, among many others. While at Warner, Jason also oversaw the company’s marketing initiatives, including brand strategies, website development, and digital communication strategies including social media. Lastly, Jason initiated new business development in various areas, including new media arrangements, merchandising, and grant of rights in traditional and non-traditional formats.

While at Warner, Jason also gained vast experience in the marketing, sponsorship, and branding world, as a partner in the inte­grated marketing agency HeadOverHeels Collective, which Jason co-founded in 2008. The company provided marketing services to companies in the entertainment, fashion, retail, media and consumer goods industries. There, Jason oversaw the company’s legal and business affairs, including the solicitation, negotiation and formation of client relation­ships, strategic alliances, sponsorship opportunities, brand integration and consultancy arrangements. Jason brokered new business op­portunities for the company’s clients which included A&E Networks, Movado, Estee Lauder, Denon, Pantone, Calvin Klein and FAO Schwarz.

From 2001 to 2008, Jason served various posts at Universal Music Publishing Group, which included over six years at BMG Music Publishing before it was sold to Universal. In his most recent position as Vice President, Legal & Business Af­fairs, Jason served as a key business and legal executive for all facets of the company’s business affairs and develop­ment, including the company’s U.S. publishing catalogs and production music divisions. Jason was instrumental in negotiating the initial signings and/or re-negotia­tions with high profile talent including Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Maroon 5, Nelly, Christina Agu­ilera, Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, Wu Tang Clan, Duncan Sheik, Ben Folds, Kenny G., Joan Jett, Chris Daughtry, Korn, Hall & Oats, Slayer, Ne-Yo, The All-American Rejects, Britney Spears, Shania Twain, Pitbull, Macy Gray, Nas, Linkin Park and The Matrix, among many others. Additionally, Jason worked with corporate partners including MTV, ESPN, Hallmark, YouTube, Nike, Mattel, EA Sports, Paramount, Lionsgate and the NFL. Jason also over­saw the branding and trademark strategies relating to the company’s vast production music libraries and served as a member of the company’s New Media Committee where he developed the company’s strategies in emerging technology markets.

Prior to joining Universal, Jason served for two years as an Associate in the Trade Practices & Regulatory Law Department at the law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, with a general focus in intellectual property law and mu­sic licensing. While at Weil, Jason represented various broadcasters and webcasters, including MTV and CBS, in the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) rate-setting proceeding in an effort to negotiate new royalty rates for the streaming of sound recordings over the Internet. Jason also represented the Radio Music Licensing Committee to obtain new public performance royalty rates with BMI, which involved the negotiation of a new license agreement for simultaneous on-line radio transmissions. Lastly, Jason negotiated an array of web-based license agreements for a wide range of clients including GE Capital and the NFL Players Association, and worked on a variety of general copyright and trademark matters. During his practice at Weil, Jason wrote several articles in the area of e-commerce, including publications in the Metropolitan Corporate Counsel and the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Journal.

Before Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, Jason served as a clerk in the music division at Epstein, Levinsohn, Bodine, Hurwitz & Wein­stein, LLP from 1998 to 1999, where his various projects included the representation of Profile Records in its sale to Arista Records, as well as overseeing mechanical and synchronization license agreements on behalf of Ultra Records.

Prior to entering law school, Jason served in the Promotions Department at Epic Records/550 Music from 1996 to 1997 where he worked on projects including Celine Dion, Ben Folds Five and Ginuwine. Jason began his career in 1996 as a Production Assis­tant at NBC’s “Today Show” where he worked on location for various broadcasts including the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Jason received his Juris Doctor from the Cardozo School of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a concentration in Intellectual Proper­ty Law and was inducted into the Order of the Coif as member of the top 10% of his graduating class. While attending Cardozo, Jason served on the editorial staff of the Cardozo Law Review as the Administrative Editor, was awarded the H. Bert & Ruth Mack Scholarship, and served as the Panels Chair of the Entertainment Law Society. The Cardozo Law Review published Jason's note entitled The Heist of Feist: Protection for Collections of Information and the Possible Federalization of “Hot News” (21 CARDOZO L. REV 871), which went on to receive First Place honors in the International Intellectual Property Writing Competition.

Jason received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Emory University.  While at Emory, Jason was a college rep and intern for Sony Music Entertainment’s Atlanta office.

Jason is currently a member of the New York State Bar, First Department and is also admitted to the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.  Jason currently resides in Brookville, New York.

  • Jason Boyarski represented the Prince Estate in its performing rights deal with Global Music Rights.  Global Music Rights won the sweepstakes to represent the Prince catalog for performance licensing, signing a deal with Bremer Trust which has been overseeing the estate of the innovative artist. The deal covers the entire Prince catalog on a worldwide basis, both for released and unreleased tracks. Prince's catalog includes such hit songs as "Purple Rain," "1999," "When Doves Cry," and "Raspberry Beret."  Prince and his team had been administering his publishing catalog since the artist left ASCAP in 2014.  , 2016
