John G. Yacos

The founder of his eponymous law firm, John G. Yacos focuses his practice exclusively on divorce and other family law matters. Working out of the firm's offices in New York City, he provides representation to clients throughout the greater metropolitan area. Mr. Yacos has been admitted to practice before all New York state courts since 1990.

In a large portion of his practice, Mr. Yacos furnishes advice and counsel to people who are contemplating or going through a divorce. He helps them deal with such related legal issues as alimony, child support, the division of complex assets and debts, and child custody and visitation. An experienced litigator, he is a forceful courtroom advocate on their behalf when it becomes necessary, but he also has an extensive background in negotiations, and he is able to help many of his clients come to an accord on some or all of those matters without having to go through a lengthy and often contentious battle. Mr. Yacos has also represented clients whose marriages have already been legally dissolved and who are now seeking the enforcement of or modifications to existing parenting and support court orders. Other family law matters that Mr. Yacos has handled have included grandparents’ custody and visitation rights, and he regularly prepares and reviews prenuptial and postmarital agreements.

Mr. Yacos is a member of several professional organizations, including the New York County Lawyers Association and the Brooklyn Bar Association. He is a graduate of Brown University, and he obtained his legal education at Boston University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1989. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Yacos worked for the New York City Administration for Children's Services.
