John J. Rosenberg is a co-founder of Rosenberg, Giger and Perala P.C., a litigation firm based in New York City. Mr. Rosenberg's practice is primarily dedicated to litigation, with a focus on disputes in the areas of entertainment and media, intellectual property, and complex commerical and business matters. Mr. Rosenberg's practice is national in scope, and he regularly appears in Federal and State Courts, as well as in mediations and arbitrations, in jurisdictions throughout the country.
After receiving a B.A. in music with a concentration in ethnomusicology (Japanese music) from Brown University, Mr. Rosenberg earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1979, graduating summa cum laude and first in his class. He then clerked for the Honorable Levin H. Campbell of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Following his clerkship, Mr. Rosenberg was accepted into the United States Department of Justice Honors Program as an attorney in the appellate section of the Department's criminal division, which afforded him the opportunity to brief and argue appeals in numerous Federal Appeals Courts, and to participate in the drafting of Supreme Court filings. Mr. Rosenberg next served for a number of years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where he gained considerable experience trying complex jury cases.
In private practice since 1984, Mr. Rosenberg chaired the entertainment and media litigation group at Sullivan & Worcester in New York until 2007, when he co-founded Rosenberg & Giger. In addition to representing some of the best-known recording artists and performers in the music business, Mr. Rosenberg counts personal managers, record producers, concert promoters, music publishers, record labels, talent agencies and music streaming services among his music industry clients. Mr. Rosenberg also represents participants in numerous aspects of the film and television industries, including well established and highly regarded directors, producers, production companies, film distributors and "on air" talent. In addition, Mr. Rosenberg maintains a diverse commercial and business litigation practice, representing individuals and entities engaged in a wide range of business activities, in intellectual property, contract, employment, non-compete and intra-partnership disputes.
Mr. Rosenberg is an accomplished musician, who appeared on Bo Diddley's Grammy-nominated "Man Amongst Men" album and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones platinum selling "Let's Face It" album. He also was the guitarist in the "house band" for the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary After Party, backing up Prince, Michael Bolton, Elvis Costello and the many other featured performers who appeared that evening.
Highly regarded by his fellow professionals, Mr. Rosenberg has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and has received an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell. He is admitted to practice before all New York and Massachusetts state courts.
