- As the Board Chair of the Haitian American Caucus, I am dedicated to making a significant impact within our community through a variety of vital initiatives. Our organization is committed to enhancing the lives of Haitian Americans by addressing their needs and providing essential support. One of our key initiatives is our annual Thanksgiving distribution, where we ensure that families in need can celebrate the holiday with a bountiful meal. This event brings the community together and highlights the spirit of giving and gratitude. Additionally, we organize regular clothing donation drives to provide necessary clothing items to those who are less fortunate, ensuring that they have the essentials to lead a dignified life. Our food drives are another critical component of our mission, addressing food insecurity by distributing nutritious food to families facing economic hardships. These drives not only alleviate immediate hunger but also foster a sense of community and support among participants. Furthermore, we offer free immigration services to assist individuals and families navigating the complex immigration system. By providing legal guidance and support, we help community members achieve stability and security in their new home. In total, I have dedicated approximately 60 hours to these initiatives, working alongside a passionate team of volunteers and community members. Our collective efforts aim to uplift and empower the Haitian American community, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive, 2022
- This year, I proudly launched My 'Ohana Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating child trafficking in Ghana. Our mission is to protect and empower vulnerable children by addressing their immediate needs and providing long-term support. Since our inception, we have made significant strides in supporting children both in Ghana and the United States. We have donated clothes, food, and toys to bring relief and joy to children in need. Recognizing the importance of education, we have also offered scholarships to children attending colleges in the US and India, opening doors to brighter futures through higher education. Our commitment to education extends to working pro bono on study abroad applications, assisting students in pursuing educational opportunities in the US and Canada. By providing this support, we help students achieve their academic and professional aspirations, contributing to their personal growth and success. In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl, we are currently coordinating efforts to send donations to the islands of St. Vincent and Jamaica for disaster relief. Our aim is to provide much-needed resources to help these communities recover and rebuild. This year marks a significant milestone for My 'Ohana Foundation as we prepare to host our first annual gala. This event aims to raise awareness about the critical issue of child trafficking in Ghana and generate funds to support our initiatives. The proceeds will directly benefit children in Ghana, providing them with the opportunity to attend school and secure a better future. Through these efforts, My 'Ohana Foundation is making a tangible impact in the lives of children, ensuring they are protected, educated, and empowered. We are committed to continuing our work and expanding our reach, striving to create a world where every child can thrive, 2024
- Through Hazlewood Lawrence, I have been actively involved in community service initiatives both in Ghana and Harlem, making a meaningful impact in the lives of many. Our efforts have been focused on addressing essential needs and providing valuable resources to underprivileged communities. In Ghana, we have distributed food, books, and toys to children and families, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals, educational materials, and recreational items. These distributions have brought joy and relief to many, fostering a sense of hope and community spirit. Additionally, we have organized free medical checkups, offering vital healthcare services to those who may not have regular access to medical facilities. These checkups have been instrumental in early detection and treatment of various health conditions, significantly improving the overall well-being of the community. Our work in Harlem has been equally impactful. We have hosted three free immigration conferences and workshops, providing critical information and support to individuals and families navigating the immigration process. These events have empowered participants with the knowledge and resources needed to achieve legal stability and build better futures. Furthermore, Hazlewood Lawrence has made significant contributions to orphanages and foster homes, donating essential supplies and resources to support the care and development of vulnerable children. Our donations have helped improve living conditions and provide better opportunities for these children to thrive. Through these initiatives, I am committed to making a positive difference in the lives of those in need, both in Ghana and Harlem. By addressing basic needs, providing educational support, and offering legal and medical services, Hazlewood Lawrence continues to uplift and empower communities, fostering a brighter and more hopeful future for all, 2023
