Kenneth J. Katz is a principal of New York City-based Katz Melinger PLLC. Focusing his practice primarily on labor and employment law, he provides representation to both companies as well as employees throughout the area in a variety of related matters. Mr. Katz regularly assists clients that are engaged in wage and hour disputes arising out of the Fair Labor Standards Act or New York state labor law, and he also handles litigation involving discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination and violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act. Outside of the employment area, he has extensive experience with real estate transactions, ranging from commercial leases to residential sales and purchases.
As an undergraduate, Mr. Katz attended the University at Albany, State University of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 2000. He then went on to attend the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and was awarded his Juris Doctor cum laude in 2003. While in law school, Mr. Katz served as associate editor of the Hofstra Labor & Employment Law Journal.
After graduation, Mr. Katz spent nearly two years as an attorney with the New York City Administration for Children's Services, an agency that provides child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care and education services, before entering private practice. He has been with his current firm since January 2013. Admitted to practice before all New York and New Jersey state courts, Mr. Katz is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern Districts of New York as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is an active participant in the New York County Lawyers Association.
