Lorraine Gauli-Rufo

Lorraine Gauli-Rufo is a federal criminal defense attorney whose nearly two decades of practice have been shaped by rigorous academic achievement and a career-long commitment to justice. In 2013, she established LGR Law LLC in New York, New York, to provide focused legal counsel for those facing federal prosecution. She has continued to deliver tailored defense strategies in matters such as tax fraud, health care fraud, conspiracy, immigration offenses, RICO allegations, bank robberies, bribery, extortion and Hobbs Act charges, among others. She extends her practice to New York and all the boroughs, along with New Jersey. 

After graduating summa cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law, Ms. Gauli-Rufo began her legal career at a private firm, where she gained her first experience working with complex legal matters. During her tenure at the firm’s North New Jersey office, she had the unique opportunity to be mentored by the Honorable Frederick B. Lacey, a former federal judge in the district of New Jersey, whose guidance proved foundational to her trajectory in federal defense work.

Encouraged by Judge Lacey, Ms. Gauli-Rufo joined the New Jersey Federal Public Defender’s Office to further develop her litigation and courtroom skills. As an assistant federal public defender, she dedicated nearly 20 years to representing clients in a wide array of federal cases. During this extensive service, she was entrusted with defending charges ranging from white collar offenses to drug and firearms allegations. Her representation led to numerous trial victories, appellate successes and a substantial record of achieving sentences below federal guideline recommendations. These accomplishments reflect her thorough case preparation and diligent advocacy in matters such as money laundering, mail and wire fraud, bank and mortgage fraud, securities violations, and computer and internet-related offenses.

Ms. Gauli-Rufo also offers guidance in complex matters such as grand jury investigations, double jeopardy and cryptocurrency fraud.
