Marc D. Ostrow

An entertainment and sports attorney at Romano Law PLLC in New York, Marc D. Ostrow serves as a senior counsel at the firm. From prosecuting copyright infringement actions to defending an organization in a lawsuit, he has represented a wide array of clients, including composers, authors, recording artists and music publishers. 

Graduating magna cum laude for excelling in his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Ostrow majored in English and minored in music. He chose the University of Chicago Law School to pursue his legal studies and received his Juris Doctor in 1989. 

Upon being admitted to practice law in New York in 1990, Mr. Ostrow started his legal practice in a renowned organization in the state where he served as a senior attorney for half a decade. He has worked in several work environments, including private practice, ginormous corporates and startups, and has represented numerous Grammy award and Pulitzer Prize award winners. 

With Mr. Ostrow’s strategic planning and immense knowledge of the industry, he was able to increase profitability and make operations more efficient for the New York office of a London-based musical publisher. Throughout his career, he has successfully handled legal matters for his clients such as copyright, intellectual and contractual issues, business issues, and legal issues involving acquisitions, asset sales and dispute resolution. 

Mr. Ostrow has been serving as an adjunct professor at a leading law school known for its music law curriculum for the past five years. He also has a video presentation on introduction to music law, which is available for earning credits through Lawline’s Continuing Legal Education classes. He is rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell and holds a score of 9.8 on 10 on Avvo.

Previously a trustee at the Copyright Society of the USA, Mr. Ostrow has served as a board member at several professional organizations, including the Music Publishers Association and the Association of Independent Music Publishers’ New York Chapter. He is seen as a speaker at various forums and institutions and has been quoted frequently in leading newspapers.
