- $650 Million Ruling in National Pharmacy Chain Opioid TrialU.S. District Court for Northern Ohio Judge Dan Aaron Polster ruled that CVS, Walgreens and Walmart must pay over $650 million over 15 years and set up an abatement program to Lake and Trumbull counties. The ruling is the first by a federal judge that assigns a monetary amount against pharmacy chains for their role in the opioid epidemic. The funds will be used in programs to address the fallout from opioid abuse the defendant’s marketing of opioids caused., 2022
- $1.185 Billion Settlement with Dupont, Chemours, CortevaNapoli Shkolnik is pleased to announce a major breakthrough in the pursuit of justice for water providers and their communities affected by PFAS contamination in the United States. Working diligently alongside our co-leads, we have successfully settled the material terms with defendants DuPont, Chemours, and Corteva regarding their responsibility for the PFAS contamination of public water systems and the associated costs of treatment. Under the terms of the agreement, DuPont, Chemours, and Corteva acknowledge their role in the PFAS contamination crisis and must provide financial compensation for the cost of treatment necessary to address the contamination their ‘forever chemicals’ caused., 2023
- $12.5 Billion Settlement with 3M CompanyNapoli Shkolnik, along with Plaintiffs’ Co-Lead and Interim Class Counsel, is proud to announce a $12.5 billion settlement with 3M Company in the ongoing multi-district litigation over the contamination of drinking water with toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (“PFAS”) resulting from the widespread use of aqueous film-forming foam (“AFFF”). This historic class action settlement agreement resolves the claims of Public Water Systems across the country that have been impacted by actual or threatened contamination of their water systems with PFAS. This proposed class settlement is the result of many months of negotiations between the parties and is subject to approval by Judge Richard M. Gergel, who was assigned in December 2018 to oversee the ongoing MDL proceedings in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina., 2023
- $3.1 Billion Multi-State Settlement Secured by Court-Appointed Leadership in National Prescription Opiate Litigation MDLWith this settlement, Napoli Shkolnik, along with the litigation team, continue to hold national pharmacy chains accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic. The $3.1 Billion settlement reached with Walmart is another significant milestone in the fight against the nation’s opioid crisis. This agreement addresses the pharmacy chain’s contributing role to the opioid epidemic by failing to regulate opioid prescriptions at its stores. Settlement funds will be used in programs to address the fallout from opioid abuse, including treatment, recovery and abatement. Additionally, Walmart will be court-ordered to comply with an oversight plan to prevent future fraudulent prescriptions and red flag suspicious prescriptions. , 2022

- The American legal system is based on a simple concept: that the adversarial process of two sides making their cases through a fair process produces a better understanding of the truth. In civil disputes, that allows the court to render a fair judgment. In criminal proceedings, it provides a way for the accused to defend themselves. Justice should always be a pursuit of fairness. - The symbiosis between law and morality has played a major role in universities since their formation and is critical to our moral and legal future. Each is dependent on the other, and an attempt to separate the two will seal the fate of our society as a whole. The Catholic law school must ensure that this symbiosis is never broken, but is fulfilled by incorporating relevant new courses and by teaching present classes in light of the Catholic message. Further, Catholic defense clinics should be offered to enrich the lives of others, and priests and nuns should be made available to assist the spiritual growth of students. However, the pervasive attitude in today's Catholic law schools not only ignores the Catholic heritage, but also rejects the religious reasoning underpinning the law. As a result, today's lawyers are robbed of a full understanding of the law and its origins. Nurturing young lawyers' moral development should be the business of Catholic law schools to ensure a future of fair, equitable, and just laws., The Lord in the Law: Reflections on a Catholic Law School, St. Mary’s Law Review, 1993
