Melissa R. Cefalu

Melissa R. Cefalu is the CEO and founder of Cefalu Law, located in New York City, New York, where she focuses her practice on a broad range of family law matters. She represents clients in cases involving divorce, mediation, child support, child custody, custody and visitation, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements and the equitable distribution of marital property. Through her work, she is committed to guiding individuals and families through complex legal issues with clarity and care.

Ms. Cefalu approaches each matter with a practical, client-centered perspective, recognizing the emotional and financial challenges that often accompany family law disputes. She works closely with her clients to develop tailored legal strategies that align with their goals while seeking efficient and effective resolutions. Whether negotiating settlements or advocating in court, she emphasizes clear communication and informed decision-making throughout every stage of the legal process.

Before establishing her firm, Ms. Cefalu built a strong academic foundation in both business and law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s University. She then attended Hofstra University, where she was enrolled in both the Maurice A. Deane School of Law and the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, exposing her to different perspectives that she uses to help her clients today. She received both her Juris Doctor and her M.B.A. degrees in 2014.

Admitted to practice in New Jersey in 2014, New York in 2016 and Connecticut in 2017, Ms. Cefalu maintains an active presence in the legal community. She serves on the executive committees of the New York Women’s Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Section and is a member of several other professional organizations.
