Michael Eidman has spent his entire 44 year career representing victims of personal injury and medical negligence. 2024 marks the 13th consecutive year in which he has been included among the New York Super Lawyers for his work in those fields. Until 1998, he led and managed the personal injury and medical malpractice department of a busy general practice law firm. Then, owing to the increasingly contentious and protracted nature of of personal injury and malpractice litigation, Mr. Eidman sought a way to devote more time to each client. In order to do so, he opened his own practice, which enabled him to dedicate his efforts to a highly select, yet diverse, group of cases. Thanks to the reduced case-load, Mr. Eidman is able to work intimately with his clients, personally developing their cases from the initial client meeting through investigation and then through the entire litigation process until conclusion via settlement or trial. When his father, Seymour H. Eidman began to scale back his own practice, Michael was able to assume primary responsibility over his father's caseload as well, while relying upon his father's vast experience. Some of Mr. Eidman's cases have been featured in The New York Times, in other local newspapers and on network news programs. His personable style and ability to simplify difficult medical concepts have overcome many challenging fact patterns, resulting in extremely favorable settlements and verdicts in cases involving birth injuries, general medical malpractice, traffic safety, construction accidents, police brutality, sexual abuse, unsafe premises, and car accidents. He has continued to streamline his practice, never taking on more cases than he is able to handle efficiently. Over the years, Mr. Eidman has developed a reliable and highly qualified group of medical, engineering, economic and other experts, whose opinions and testimony help maximize each client's recovery. Owing in large part to his stellar reputation and thorough preparation, Mr. Eidman has been successfully resolving more cases via mediation, thanks in part to the thorough and incisive mediation statement that Michael and his assistant Daphne, prepare and submit in advance of each mediation. Consequently, clients benefit from a quicker and definitive resolution with fewer expenses. Michael is a member of the New York and New Jersey state and federal bars and is of counsel to law firms in both states including his recent affiliation with the New Jersey firm Fischer Porter & Thomas, P.C. which expects to utilize his trial skills, experience, and track record. He has also been called to testify as an expert witness in ethics proceedings involving personal injury practice.
Michael continues to find the practice of law to be very gratifying. In 2016, he was sworn into practice before the justices of the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. His first book, a non-fiction collection of essays entitled "A Roomful of Elephants & Other Essays", has enjoyed critical praise amongst readers on amazon.com. His second book, entitled "Sketches of Sy and Other Writings",was published in 2022 and focuses, in part, on Michael's experiences in the courtroom.
