As the founding member of The Richard L. Rosen Law Firm, PLLC, in New York, New York, attorney Richard L. Rosen has established himself as a leader in franchise law. Serving a diverse range of clients throughout the state as well as in various jurisdictions across the country, Mr. Rosen has more than 40 years of legal experience advising franchisers and franchisees, helping to establish franchise entities, systems and programs; drafting and negotiating franchise agreements; and resolving disputes through arbitration, mediation and litigation.

In addition to franchise law, Mr. Rosen has extensive experience handling all areas of corporate law and commercial litigation, real estate law and transactions, (having developed properties in New York City for approximately 20 years) and estates and trusts. Devoted to helping his clients resolve their conflicts and reach agreements as efficiently as possible, Mr. Rosen focuses his efforts on both transactional matters as well as  alternative dispute resolution techniques, such as arbitration and mediation; however, he and his firm  will not hesitate to fight on behalf of his clients in court when necessary.

In all cases, Mr. Rosen is fully committed to helping his clients protect their rights and interests while working to help them achieve their specific goals no matter how complex their needs. From his high level of client commitment, he has earned numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including an AV Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell as well as recognition from various peer review sources as being among the best franchise attorneys in the nation.

A 1965 graduate of Cornell University, where he majored in Philosophy and was a  New York State Regents Scholar, Mr. Rosen obtained his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1968, where he was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Prize in Criminal Law. The New York State Bar Association admitted him to practice that same year, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd and 9th Circuits.

Highly active in his legal community, Mr. Rosen is the immediate past chair of the Fair Franchising Standards Committee, and he serves on the board of directors of the American Association of Franchisees & Dealers. Recognized for his exceptional contributions to his field, he received the organization's Total Quality Franchising Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. He is a founding member and past Chairman of the Franchise, Distribution and Licensing Law Section of the New York State Bar Association (and Chairman of its Franchise Relations and its Mission Statement Committees).

In addition, Mr. Rosen is highly active in various other professional legal organizations, and he writes extensively and conducts lectures and seminars throughout the country on franchise law and other legal topics. Richard Rosen is a contributor to "Franchising 101, The Complete Guide To Evaluating, Buying and Growing Your Franchise Business" compiled by the Association of Small Business Development Centers. Mr. Rosen and his Firm are the authors of the sections on Franchise Law in the United States that appears in the Third, Fourth and Fifth Editions of the (International) Franchise Law Review, as well as the US Franchise Law Analysis which appears in the International Comparative Legal Guide to: Franchise, in its 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022  Editions, as well as the soon to be published Section on Real Estate Matters  in the United States, which will also appear in the International Comparative Legal Guide to: Real Estate. He and his firm recently completed the sections on Franchise Law in the States of New York and New Jersey as published by Lexology  in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Digital Editions  of Franchise USA.  Richard Rosen and his Firm have contributed the Chapter On Real Estate Development In The Cross-Border Franchise Context to the 2022 Edition of the international publication, Lexology GTDT Franchise. And finally, Richard and his firm have just completed their Chapter on litigation from the franchisee perspective which is to appear in a Franchisee Guidebook scheduled to be published this fall by the American Bar Association.
