A 1976 cum laude graduate of Brooklyn College, Mr. Himmelstein obtained his Juris Doctor from New York Law School cum laude in 1979. The New York State Bar Association admitted him to practice the following year, and he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Federal Court. Early in his career, he served with both the East Brooklyn Legal Services and South Brooklyn Legal Services. In 2009, he accepted an appointment as the tenant representative of the Housing Advisory Council.
Among his most notable clients, Mr. Himmelstein has represented the Metropolitan Council on Housing, the New York State Tenant and Neighborhood Coalition, The Chelsea Hotel Tenant Association, and numerous other Tenant Associations throughout the City . He has also served the needs of numerous individual tenant clients and tenant groups, where he has proven himself a staunch advocate for their rights and interests. Active in his legal community, he is a member of the National Lawyers Guild, The New York City Bar Association and the New York County Trial Lawyers Association, among his other professional affiliations.
