Susan L. Bender

Attorney Susan L. Bender is a partner at Bender & Crane LLP in New York, New York. She represents individuals and families throughout the New York metropolitan area in high-end divorce and family law matters involving prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, child custody and support, LGBTQIA laws and more.

Ms. Bender earned a B.A. from Harper College, State University of New York in 1973 and attained her law degree from Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in 1980. She has been admitted to practice law in New York since 1980 and is also licensed before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Supreme Court. In addition to her litigation experience, she is also trained in alternative dispute resolution methods such as arbitration and mediation.

Highly recognized for her contributions to the family law community, Ms. Bender has been peer-review rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell. She has also consistently been listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” and is a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has received numerous other accolades, including the Founder’s Day Award from the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) and The Joan L. Ellenbogen Memorial Fellowship from the New York Women’s Bar Association (NYWBA).

Throughout her career, Ms. Bender has lectured extensively on family law topics for various bar associations and educational institutions. She has also authored numerous articles on family and domestic relations matters.

Ms. Bender is active in a number of professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Matrimonial Commission, the American Bar Association, the WBASNY, the Lesbian and Gay Law Association Foundation of Greater New York, the NYWBA, the Judges and Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert and The American College of Family Trial Lawyers. Moreover, she has experience serving as the Attorney General of the state of New York as well as on the Civil Practice Law and Rules Committee of the Office of Court Administration.
