Yan Lian Kuang-Maoga

A senior associate at Pitta & Baione LLP, Yan Lian Kuang-Maoga focuses her practice primarily on estate planning and administration. In addition, she appears before the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund on behalf of clients of the firm who either lost a loved one in that attack or who continue to suffer respiratory and other diseases as a result of exposure to the resulting contaminants. Based in the firm's office in New York City, she represents clients throughout the greater metropolitan area, including all five boroughs. Ms. Kuang-Maoga has been admitted to practice before all New York state courts since 2010, and she is a graduate of the City University of New York School of Law.

In her estate planning practice, Ms. Kuang-Maoga regularly prepares and reviews wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, financial and health care powers of attorney, and advance medical directives. She tailors each plan to the specific needs and goals of her client, which often include the avoidance of probate and the minimization of federal and state estate taxes. Ms. Kuang-Maoga also guides people through the probate process when their loved ones have died with a valid will in place. Other elder law matters that she has handled have included providing advice and counsel regarding long-term care alternatives, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and related Medicaid planning.

The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund was enacted into law shortly after the attack in order to compensate victims or their survivors in exchange for their agreeing not to file lawsuits against the airlines involved. It has provided more than $10 billion to date, and it covers cancer as well as certain other diseases. Ms. Kuang-Maoga helps her clients comply with the program's strict deadlines and eligibility requirements.
