- Union Member Injured on the Job - $475,000 Settlement. When a driver fails to abide by traffic laws, like yielding to right of way, they put everyone on the road at risk. Our client, a 36-year-old union member, was driving an Arlington Central School District bus when he was stopped in traffic at a green signal waiting to turn left. Another driver failed to yield to our client, even though he had the right of way, and struck the front portion of the van. Our client sustained serious injuries to his spine. - General Contractor Fails to Keep Retail Worker - $500,000 Settlement: When any business, including a retail store, undergoes construction the General Contractor performing the work is required to ensure the safety of store patrons and store employees. Under New York State labor laws, contractors must provide reasonable protection for persons lawfully frequenting and passing by work areas. Our client, a 47-year-old retail worker was walking with her supervisor in a portion of the store that had been blocked off for patrons but was accessible to employees. She slipped and fell on construction materials. She suffered painful leg and knee injuries that caused her to lose her second job. She ultimately had to undergo surgery. - NEW YORK CITY FAILS TO MAINTAIN BIKE LANE - $425,000 SETTLEMENT: While riding on Shore Road and 79th Street in Brooklyn, our client was busy paying attention to the traffic and pedestrians.
