Frances M. Bova is an attorney with Jacoby & Meyers Accident & Injury Lawyers based in Newburgh, New York, practicing in personal injury matters, including motor vehicle collisions, slip-and-fall accidents, and premises liability, wrongful death, construction accidents and related fee disputes. She brings a clinical and legal background to complex liability and procedural issues across New York and New Jersey matters.
Ms. Bova began her career as a registered nurse in the Bronx, earning a B.S. from Herbert H. Lehman College in 1978 and an M.S.N. from Hunter College in 1983. While teaching clinical nursing and providing in-service education for surgical unit staff, she created a course on the Legal Aspects of Nursing to improve charting and reduce legal exposure; that work prompted her to pursue a law degree. She graduated cum laude from Pace University School of Law in 1993, where she served on the International Law Review and was a casenote and comment editor.
In practice, Ms. Bova initially handled medical malpractice defense in both New York and New Jersey before joining Jacoby & Meyers Accident & Injury Lawyers in 2001 as a New Jersey associate motions attorney. In that role, she advises New York and New Jersey colleagues on New Jersey procedure and substantive law, drafts motions, oppositions and appellate briefs, and conducts in-depth research on evidentiary and liability issues that shape case strategy. After seven years with the firm, she was elevated to partner and continues to oversee the firm’s New Jersey motions and appeals docket.
Ms. Bova’s litigation record includes securing a granted summary judgment motion on liability in a motor vehicle accident that precipitated a $210,000 settlement, prevailing on appeal to uphold an $800,000 slip-and-fall verdict after two trials and defeating multiple summary judgment motions in a challenging construction-accident matter that resolved for $75,000. Those results reflect her focus on rigorous motion practice and appellate advocacy.
Ms. Bova is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. She maintains memberships in the New York State Bar Association and the New Jersey Bar Association and volunteers with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, supporting a local food pantry in her community.
