Joseph G. McKay

As a partner at Mahon Rider McKay PLLC, based in Newburgh, New York, Joseph G. McKay provides legal counsel to municipalities, businesses and individuals throughout the state. His practice involves public and private sector matters, including administrative proceedings, appellate advocacy, civil rights litigation, land use and property development, environmental litigation, commercial litigation and municipal law.

Mr. McKay has extensive experience in handling disputes at both the trial and appellate levels. He often represents clients in state and federal courts, administrative agencies and municipal boards. He offers strategic guidance on regulatory compliance, zoning and land use issues, and litigation. His background in government service gives him a deep understanding of administrative processes and the practical realities that public entities and regulated industries face.

Licensed to practice law in New York, Mr. McKay is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, as well as in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Southern, Northern and Western Districts of New York. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York.

A proud alumnus of the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where Mr. McKay laid the foundation for his legal career and bolstered his legal principles, earning his Juris Doctor in 1999. While in law school, he served as a research editor for the Touro Law Review. Prior to attending his legal studies, he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pace University in 1986. 

Active in the legal community, Mr. McKay holds memberships in several prestigious professional organizations, such as the New York State Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the New York Association of Towns, and participates in the Orange County Association of Towns, Villages and Cities.
