Janet H. Amburgey

Janet Amburgey is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law as recognized by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.  She focuses her practice exclusively on family law matters, both to her own clients and to other lawyers and their clients as a mediator.

In 2015 Janet began service as a member of the Executive Committee of the 28th Judicial District Bar.  Now more commonly known as the Buncombe Bar and widely recognized throughout North Carolina as a paradigm of service to its membership, Janet took the oath of office as its President at the Bar’s Annual Meeting in 2023. When she finalizes her duties in 2025, she will have dedicated 10 years of service to local legal governance in Western North Carolina.  She is a member of the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, and co-chaired its Parent’s Rights Committee in 2017, opening the door to statewide service of the professional practice of law. Janet is widely recognized by her peers as among the best in her field through North Carolina Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, North Carolina Legal Elite, and Martindale Hubbell. 

Janet is a native of Asheville. She earned her law degree from Appalachian School of Law in 2008 and holds her undergraduate in Business Administration and Marketing from University of Tennessee.
