Robert N. Maitland, II

The founder of the Maitland & English Law Firm, PLLC, Robert N. Maitland II has a diverse practice that covers a variety of disciplines. The firm is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and he represents clients throughout the Research Triangle area, including Raleigh and Durham. Mr. Maitland has been admitted to practice in North Carolina since 2002, and he is also admitted to practice in Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Maitland attended the University of California, Los Angeles, as an alumni scholar, and in 1984, he received a Bachelor of Arts in political science. After a distinguished career in banking and financial services with Citibank and Great Western Bank (now known as JPMorgan Chase Bank), he enrolled at the University of North Carolina School of Law, where he served on the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation and received a Robert D. Dearborn Memorial Scholarship before obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1997.

Rob practiced law in Florida for several years, returning to Chapel Hill as General Counsel for the Visiting International Faculty program before opening his current firm in November 2002. He now devotes a significant portion of his practice to commercial and residential real estate transactions, representing sellers, purchasers and brokers. He has represented tens of thousands of home buyers and welcomed them and their families to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Triangle area. Mr. Maitland’s client base includes entrepreneurs and business owners, helping them with entity formation, contract preparation and review, regulatory compliance, experienced "real world" general advice and wise legal counsel. Mr. Maitland has experience in other practice areas such as family law, estate planning, probate administration, probate litigation, real estate syndication, and civil and commercial litigation.

Rob has always enjoyed an active role in our community, proudly serving as President of the Orange County Bar Association, President of the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club, President of the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation, Co-Chair of the Chapel Hill 2020 Outreach Committee, and as a Member of the Board of Directors for Teachers2Teachers, Chapel Hill YMCA, UNC School of Law Alumni Association Advancement Committee, Orange County Rape Crisis Center, Volunteers for Youth, Volunteer Center of Durham and several other local organizations. He is married to his wife Alden Maier and has five children, Katie, Robby, Alden, Anna B, and Bowen.
