Other Outstanding Achievements:
  • In conjunction with the Center for Civil Rights of the UNC School of Law, Bob Bollinger has represented pro bono (without legal fee) a number of claimants to the "Eugenics Compensation Fund" set up by the General Assembly to compensate individuals who were sterilized by the State pursuant to the Eugenics Act of 1933. Bob tried several of these denied cases through the Industrial Commission and took several appeals to the Court of Appeals for individuals who were sterilized against their will and without their consent, by county social workers acting under color and authority of state law. Unfortunately, the rulings thus far have continued to deny benefits to this particular group of victims. As of September 2016 Bob had several "Petitions for Discretionary Review" still pending at the NC Supreme Court for some of these victims of the state's Eugenics policy.
