After serving in the military, Mr. Foster retired in 2004 as a lieutenant colonel. During his time as an active duty Marine Corps officer, he represented Marines as a judge advocate in court-martial trials. He is currently admitted to practice before the following: United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the state of North Carolina.
Formerly an active Bar member in California, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, Mr. Foster has an Avvo “Superb” rating. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Southern California, graduating cum laude. In 1981, he earned a Juris Doctor from the UCLA School of Law.
Mr. Foster is a member of the following organizations: the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the Mecklenburg County Bar, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. The current Criminal Justice Act panel attorney district representative for the Western District of North Carolina, he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Defenders of Western North Carolina, Inc.
