Mr. DeSelms graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He continued his education at Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, earning J.D. cum laude in 2007 and gaining his legal license in North Carolina the same year.
During law school, Mr. DeSelms was actively involved with the Trial Team of the American Association for Justice, participating in competitions nationwide. He was also a part of the Order of the Barristers and served as Deputy Attorney General for the Law School's Honor Court. In 2012, he shared his insights at the Carolina Case Management's Annual Spring Symposium on new legislation and its impact on case management and ethical practices.
A respected figure in the legal community, Mr. DeSelms is affiliated with the North Carolina Bar Association, the Onslow County Bar Association and the Fifth Judicial District Bar Association. He also plays a significant role in his community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of Jacksonville and the Onslow County Women’s Center, where he is vice-chairman.
In August 2007, Mr. DeSelms became a part of Mewborn & DeSelms, Attorneys at Law, where he has been dedicated to both civil and criminal litigation. His responsibilities have grown to include serving as the county attorney for Onslow County and as the county public guardian.
