Douglas W. Hanna

Douglas Hanna is a founding member of the litigation boutique known as Fitzgerald Hanna & Sullivan, PLLC in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Mr. Hanna is a veteran trial lawyer, having tried more than 30 jury trials to verdict.  In 2019, Mr. Hanna was recognized as having obtained one of the Top 50 Jury Verdicts (Commercial Litigation) in the United States.  In that case, he represented a group of investors that were defrauded out of millions of dollars involving claims of fraud, conspiracy, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. The case was tried before a jury in federal court (Southern District of Texas) resulting a large verdict for his clients.  Law360 reported on the trial with the following headline: Texas Jury Awards $15M Over Sham Real Estate Investment.  

Mr. Hanna routinely represents clients in business litigation matters in Federal Court, State Court and the North Carolina Business Court.  Mr. Hanna also handles complex civil litigation matters in the areas of constitutional law, eminent domain, insurance law, tort liability, and class action litigation. 

Mr. Hanna started his career as a Navy Judge Advocate.  Following his government service, Mr. Hanna joined North Carolina’s largest law firm (Womble Carlyle) and focused his practice on business litigation, insurance litigation and complex tort cases.  Mr. Hanna's results-oriented approach and fierce dedication to his clients earned him recognition in the peer-selected North Carolina Super Lawyers.   

Mr. Hanna received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1988 and his law degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1991.
