Julia Y. Kirkpatrick

Julia Y. Kirkpatrick is a partner at Burns, Day & Presnell, P.A. Working out of the firm’s offices in Raleigh, North Carolina, she represents people and businesses throughout the state, including the Research Triangle area that includes Durham and Chapel Hill along with Raleigh. Admitted to practice in North Carolina, Ms. Kirkpatrick is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of North Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. She is additionally admitted to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina.

A significant portion of Ms. Kirkpatrick’s practice involves complex commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on construction matters. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, and the cases that she has worked on have included breach of contract claims, liens, surety bonds and construction defects. Ms. Kirkpatrick’s clients in this area of her practice have included general and subcontractors as well as design professionals, and she advises them on how to anticipate potential problems so as to avoid having to deal with protracted courtroom battles.

Ms. Kirkpatrick also represents companies in various aspects of labor and employment law. Her work in this regard includes employment contracts, noncompete agreements, and claims of alleged workplace discrimination governed by various federal and state laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the North Carolina Equal Employment Practices Act. A 1996 recipient of a Bachelor of Science in political science from North Carolina State University, Ms. Kirkpatrick obtained her legal education at Campbell University School of Law, and in 2000 she was awarded her Juris Doctor.
