Katie Weaver Hartzog

After devoting over 15 years to a successful career at her former workplace, Katie Weaver Hartzog has taken on a new challenge as a founding partner at Hartzog Law Group LLP in Raleigh, North Carolina. Drawing from her comprehensive experience, she has acutely represented businesses, governmental bodies and educational organizations in various legal areas involving employment law, municipal law and education law. She provides experienced guidance and representation to clients entangled in employment disputes, constitutional claims and Title IX concerns. Her prowess in the field is nothing short of exceptional.

Ms. Hartzog is not only recognized for her prowess in litigation but also for her adept negotiation skills in securing favorable settlements for clients and minimizing damages. Her impressive track record includes victories in federal and state trial courts of North Carolina, appellate courts, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Office of Administrative Hearings.

Beyond dispute resolution, Ms. Hartzog excels in proactive legal counseling, advising clients on employment dismissals, disciplinary actions and organizational restructuring. She has played a pivotal role in initiating the Employment Pre-Loss Program for the North Carolina League of Municipalities, aiming to reduce exposure to employment claims and litigation. Moreover, she consistently assists towns and cities in North Carolina in navigating employment matters through this initiative.

In addition to her litigation and advisory roles, Ms. Hartzog is highly skilled in providing training programs for supervisors, department heads, HR directors and decision-makers on a wide range of legal topics, including constitutional claims, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, REDA claims and issues related to COVID-19. Her competence also extends to educational institutions, where she conducts training on the revised Title IX regulations by the U.S. Department of Education, ensuring compliance and awareness of legal responsibilities.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina in 2001, Ms. Hartzog went on to attend Campbell University School of Law and earned her J.D. cum laude in 2004. Licensed in North Carolina, she is admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
