Russell W. Dement, III

Russell W. DeMent, III, is a criminal and DUI/DWI attorney at  DeMent Askew Johnson & Marshall in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. DeMent has over 20 years of experience and serves clients in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill areas.

Over his career, Mr. DeMent has argued numerous misdemeanor and felony cases in the state and federal court systems. He provides aggressive and dedicated representation and is a strong negotiator and trial attorney. Prior to becoming a criminal defense attorney, he spent three years with the Office of the District Attorney in Wake County.

Recognizing his achievements, Martindale-Hubbell awarded Mr. DeMent with an AV Preeminent* peer review rating, reflecting high legal capability and ethics. Best Lawyers, North Carolina Business magazine and the National Advocacy for DUI Defense have also presented him with awards over the years. Active in the legal community, Mr. DeMent is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and the National College for DUI Defense. He belongs to the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the DUI Defense Lawyers Association and the American Association of Premier DUI Attorneys. 

Mr. DeMent is a 1994 graduate of Wake Forest University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. He received his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1997. He is qualified to practice before all North Carolina state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Serving his community, he volunteers with Ducks Unlimited and serves as a court appointed special advocate for veterans.
