After 20 years as a journalist, I embarked on a law career in 2003. My journey began with a one-year clerkship at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and I then began my practice in criminal defense and juvenile law. In 2005, I joined Gailor Hunt, a full-practice family law firm where where I have been an equity partner for 10 years. I am a North Carolina Board Certified Family Law Specialist, a DRC-certified mediator, and an AFCC-trained parenting coordinator. In addition to practicing family law, I am available to serve as a guardian ad litem in medical malpractice and personal injury cases. In 2024, I was co-counsel to attorney Isaac Thorp of Thorp Law, LLC - my husband - in a personal injury case in which the jury rendered a $13.7 million verdict. I am honored to have served as a member of the NC Chief Justice's Family Court Advisory Commission and the North Carolina Bar Association's Family law Council. I currently serve as a member of the Community Advisory Committee of The Childs Advocate, a Legal Aid project that assists children in high-conflict custody cases.

Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- I served as co-counsel to Isaac Thorp of Thorp Law LLC -- my husband -- in a personal injury case in which the jury rendered a $13.7 million verdict ($6.7 million in compensatory damages, $7 million in punitive damages). The trial involved a wrong-way driver on an interstate highway who, highly intoxicated while on the job for his employer, struck our 22-year-old client's vehicle at approximately 100 miles per hour. Our client suffered severe and permanent injuries. My work in this case consisted of examining multiple witnesses, writing and revising motions and briefs, and preparing our client for the eight-day trial. I am thankful to my partners at Gailor Hunt for agreeing I could step away from my firm duties for several weeks to assist my husband in this trial, and to my husband for offering me the experience of litigating in a different field of law. , 2024
