Â Co-founder of Teddy Meekins & Talbert, PLLC, Mr. Teddy defends clients throughout Western North Carolina who are facing serious criminal charges ranging from Driving While Impaired to First Degree Murder. Â In 2017, Mr. Teddy received the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award from the N.C. State Bar.
Mr. Teddy studied marketing at the University of Tennessee and graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration. He then attended Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh. During law school, Mr. Teddy was a member of the National Moot Court team and president of the Student Bar Association. He made such an impact that the Student Bar Association created an award named in his honor. Â The "David R. Teddy Innovative Leadership and Service Award" is given each year to an exceptional Campbel Law Student that demonstrates a keen sense of leadership and service to the school.
After receiving his Juris Doctor in 1988, Mr. Teddy was admitted to practice in North Carolina. In 1994, he ran for Senate and opened the firm of Teddy & Meekins the following year. Mr. Teddy served as chairman of the Cleveland County Democratic Party between 1995 and 1998 and has authored many papers and legal publications, inlcuding the N.C. DWI Trial Notebook published by Lexis and NCAJ. Mr. Teddy is a former President of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. Â He is a member of the National College for DUI Defense. Â He currently serves as Vice Chair of the N.C. Indigent Defense Services Commission.
