Scott emphasizes his practice areas in criminal law and family law. Scott's clients often describe him as "a straightforward, no-nonsense advocate." Scott is a husband, father, and a proud native of West Fargo, North Dakota. Growing up on a farm, Scott has the upbringing and work ethic to know when the extra effort is needed in a case. As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Scott has developed a knack for being able to engage in straight talk about what is going on with each case he handles. He is not afraid to have a candid conversation about what is happening in the case with his clients, opposing counsel/prosecutors, judges, and juries.
Scott’s first joy is his family. A wife, two sons, and an animated little dog named Trooper are the perfect way for Scott to find his happy place. A close second is his love for the Minnesota Twins and anything baseball. He firmly believes that every single year is an opportunity to bring his family to the World Series to watch his favorite team add to the ’87 and ’91 banners.
Criminal Law: Scott has handled thousands of criminal cases in his career and has appeared in a multitude of counties throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. There are very few types of cases that Scott has not seen in his career. DUI/DWI, Minor in Possession (MIP), drug possession, disorderly conduct, domestic violence, assault, white collar crime, theft, burglary, trespass, sex crimes, appeals, and even homicide are just a sampling of the types of cases that have come across Scott's desk. Scott has handled cases with municipal/city courts, state courts, and federal courts. Regardless of what jurisdiction you are facing criminal charges in, Scott stands ready to serve when you are faced with the full weight of a criminal prosecution at your doorstep.
Family Law: Scott takes pride in considering himself as a family man. He knows that before anything else, when it comes to cases involving children, their best interest should be the lodestar that guides any proper legal analysis. The decision to engage in the legal process over a divorce, legal custody, and/or child support can be extremely daunting and intimidating. Scott is willing to be the person in your corner that you need to help you navigate these very challenging life decisions. Scott makes it his mission to help clients understand and work through the legal process in order to move forward in their lives and to help the court know what is in the best interests of the children.
Scott is admitted to practice before all North Dakota and Minnesota state courts as well as before the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota. He is also an active member of the North Dakota Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Cass County Inns of Court, among his other professional affiliations.
