Trent Barkus is a partner at Barkus Law Firm, P.C., located in Fargo, North Dakota. He predominantly helps the residents of Minnesota and North Dakota with their criminal defense cases. In addition to his legal practice, he serves as the Alternate Municipal Court Judge at The City of Fargo Municipal Court and as the elected Municipal Judge at the City of West Fargo. Licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts of North Dakota since 2019, he also has experience handling family law issues. 

Mr. Barkus completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Jamestown, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, political science and economics in 2008. He served on active duty in the United States Navy from 2010 to 2016. In between, he received his Master of Science degree in international relations from Troy University in 2015. After finishing his active-duty service, he pursued his interest in the legal field at the University of North Dakota School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor degree while serving as a Naval Officer. 

While at law school, Mr. Barkus devoted a significant amount of time honing his legal skillset and developing his shrewd legal acumen by fulfilling different stints as a law clerk. An active member of the North Dakota legal community, he maintains memberships with many prominent legal associations such as the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the State Bar Association of North Dakota (Young Lawyers Section), the North Dakota Defense Lawyers Association and the Cass County Bar Association. 

Passionate about giving back to the community, Mr. Barkus volunteers for many organizations such as the Governor's Task Force for Veteran's Affairs, the Fargo National Cemetery Committee, the Stutsman/Barnes County Juvenile Drug Court and so on.
